Turkish Airlines Expands China Network With New Chengdu Connection
Turkish Airlines is expanding its footprint in East Asia with scheduled direct passenger services between Istanbul Airport (IST) and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (TFU), starting November 11, 2026.
The Sichuan provincial capital becomes the carrier’s fourth destination in mainland China, joining established long-haul gateways in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. You can track all network additions via the official Turkish Airlines press release portal.

1. Flight Schedule and Fleet Deployment
Services will operate three times weekly utilizing a modern two-class Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, configured with 300 seats including 30 lie-flat Business Class suites and 270 Economy Class seats. Outbound flight TK 226 departs Istanbul on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 02:05 local time, arriving at Chengdu Tianfu at 15:40. Return flight TK 227 operates on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, departing Chengdu at 00:45 local time and touching down back in Istanbul at 05:55. Launch promotional fares begin at $540 for Economy Class and $1,991 for Business Class.
2. Strategic Value for Trade and Global Connectivity
Chengdu is a primary commercial engine for Western China, boasting a population of over 21 million. Passengers flying into the hub can check terminal transfers via the official Chengdu Tianfu International Airport portal. The region hosts key industrial clusters in technology, automotive manufacturing, logistics, and artificial intelligence.
By inserting Istanbul as a mid-point transfer hub, the new service gives corporate travellers and belly-hold cargo operators direct, one-stop connectivity between Western China, Europe, Africa, and the Americas without requiring domestic transfers along China's eastern seaboard.

3. Boosting Cultural & Tourism Ties
In addition to trade, Chengdu serves as a major tourist gateway as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy and home to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.
Turkish Airlines CEO Ahmet Olmuştur noted that China remains a key strategic market for the flag carrier, highlighting that the addition of Chengdu strengthens two-way tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges between Türkiye and China.
