Hospitality veterans, hoteliers, and industry leaders across the Seychelles archipelago have officially formed a new independent professional body aimed at nurturing local talent and elevating standards across the nation's core economic sector.

The newly established Seychellois Society of Hoteliers & Tourism Professionals (SSHTP) operates as a non-profit, non-political organization designed to unite tourism personnel from every level of the workforce. From boutique resort owners and veteran general managers to tourism educators, tour operators, and young hospitality entrants, the initiative creates a dedicated forum for cross-generational knowledge sharing and leadership development.

Operating under the theme "Rooted in Seychelles – Rising Together: Where Seychellois Talent Elevates Hospitality," the society places human capital at the center of the country's long-term tourism strategy.

Uniting Industry Experience

The foundation for the new organization was solidified during a strategic working session held at the Seychelles Tourism Academy. Founding members—including prominent figures in Seychellois hospitality such as Alain St. Ange, Mike Valentin, Roland Georges, and John Stravens—assembled to map out initial operational priorities and governance frameworks.

Rather than focusing purely on commercial promotion, the society focuses primarily on career progression, continuous mentorship, and preserving authentic local hospitality traditions. The group seeks to complement broader destination marketing strategies managed by public sector bodies like the Seychelles Tourism Board, ensuring that local human potential keeps pace with international visitor expectations.

Elevating the Visitor Experience

With tourism remaining the primary economic pillar of Seychelles, industry stakeholders recognize that service consistency and authentic cultural experiences are vital to maintaining competitive advantage in the luxury market.

By establishing a structured platform for professional networking, specialized skills training, and policy dialogue, the SSHTP aims to address emerging operational challenges while ensuring Seychellois talent remains central to managing local properties and tourism enterprises.

The society is preparing to launch its initial membership drive in the coming months, inviting professionals across Mahé, Praslin, La Digue, and the outer islands to join the movement.
