Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has officially re-established direct air links between Scandinavia and India, launching year-round nonstop service between Copenhagen Airport (CPH) and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM).

Operating five times per week, the strategic route marks a major expansion for the carrier following its recent integration into the SkyTeam alliance. The flight reinstates a high-demand corridor connecting Northern Europe with India's primary financial and commercial hub.

The route is served by SAS’s long-haul Airbus A330 fleet, featuring a 266-seat, three-class cabin layout spanning SAS Business, SAS Plus (Premium Economy), and SAS Go (Economy). Flight SK969 departs Copenhagen in the afternoon, providing seamless onward connections for travelers originating from across Sweden, Norway, and broader European hubs.

Fostering Trade, Cargo, and Bilateral Tourism

The reinstatement of direct flights is expected to significantly boost economic ties, pharma exports, and trade logistics between the Nordic region and Western India.

In addition to passenger traffic, SAS Cargo is leveraging the belly capacity of the A330 to supply vital transport space for time-sensitive exports, including pharmaceuticals, high-tech components, and perishable goods traveling between Scandinavia and Maharashtra.

"Restoring a direct connection between Copenhagen and Mumbai is a landmark moment for our long-haul growth," said an SAS network planner during the route launch events. "As one of the world's fastest-growing economies, India presents immense opportunities for business, tourism, and cargo exchange. This nonstop service offers our travelers exceptional comfort and reliable transit."

SkyTeam Hub Integration at Copenhagen Airport

The choice of Copenhagen Airport as the exclusive origin hub highlights SAS’s ongoing strategy to concentrate its intercontinental transit traffic through Denmark's capital.

Following SAS's transition to SkyTeam, the Mumbai route enhances multi-carrier connectivity, enabling seamless single-ticket itineraries for passengers connecting through code-share partner networks across Europe and North America.
