SalamAir Expands Omani Stopover Programme to Transform Transit Passengers into Overnight Tourists
Connecting passengers traveling through Muscat International Airport can now convert routine layovers into immersive cultural vacations. SalamAir, Oman’s low-cost carrier, has announced the official expansion of its Omani Stopover Programme in direct collaboration with Visit Oman and under the guidance of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.
The initiative aims to convert growing transit passenger volumes into active visitors, allowing international travelers to experience the Sultanate's rich heritage, diverse landscapes, and hospitality before continuing to their final destinations.

Streamlined Packages and Simplified Booking
Under the enhanced programme, connecting passengers can seamlessly extend their transit stay in Muscat for up to several days. Through the integrated Visit Oman digital platform, travelers gain access to curated packages combining hotel accommodations, airport transfers, guided cultural tours, and regional excursion choices across destinations like Muscat, Nizwa, and Salalah.
The initiative leverages streamlined visa arrangements for eligible nationalities, lowering friction for spontaneous side trips. Initial pilots targeting key inbound markets—including Southeast Asian routes such as Indonesia—have already demonstrated strong engagement, prompting the airline to roll out tailored packages across its expanding global network.

Bridging Aviation and National Tourism Goals
This expansion supports Oman’s broader economic diversification strategy, which positions tourism as a core pillar of long-term development. By aligning flight connectivity with local hospitality services, the initiative directly benefits local hotels, tour operators, transport providers, and small businesses.
Industry leaders emphasize that transforming transit passengers into short-stay visitors provides a sustainable model for regional tourism growth. As SalamAir continues adding new international routes across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, the expanded stopover offering positions Muscat as both a practical transit hub and a compelling travel destination in its own right.
