Qatar Airways Expands Australian Network with Nonstop Western Sydney Flights Starting December 2027
Travelers in New South Wales are set for expanded international options as Qatar Airways officially announces direct passenger services to Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport starting December 15, 2027. The decision makes the Doha-based airline the first Middle Eastern carrier to commit long-haul international flights to Sydney’s second major aviation hub.
The route will launch with three weekly return flights connecting Hamad International Airport (DOH) directly with Western Sydney (WSI), with plans already outlined to ramp up operations to a daily service by 2028.

Route Details and In-Flight Experience
The scheduled service will utilize Qatar Airways’ flagship Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Configure to accommodate 354 passengers per flight, the aircraft features 42 sliding-door Qsuite Business Class suites alongside 312 Economy Class seats, complete with complimentary high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi throughout the cabin.
Flight schedules have been tailored to offer convenient evening arrivals into Australia and seamless connections through Doha:
- Flight QR906 (Doha to Western Sydney): Departs Hamad International Airport on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 01:40, landing at WSI at 23:45 local time.
- Flight QR907 (Western Sydney to Doha): Departs WSI on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 16:10, arriving in Doha at 23:00 local time.
Bookings for the initial schedule will officially open for public reservation on December 19, 2026.

A Strategic Expansion for Australian Connectivity
Western Sydney becomes the airline’s seventh Australian gateway, joining existing long-haul services to Sydney Kingsford Smith, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, and Canberra. By establishing a direct footprint at WSI, the carrier aims to capture demand from the rapidly growing Western Sydney catchment area while circumventing curfew restrictions that affect Sydney’s traditional Kingsford Smith Airport.
For outbound travelers from Western Sydney, the new connection unlocks one-stop access to more than 170 global destinations across the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Federal transport officials and airport executives have welcomed the announcement, highlighting that direct international services will generate substantial economic growth, create aviation jobs, and provide competitive international fare options across Greater Sydney.
