India Emerges as Fast-Growing Summer Destination for European Travelers
India has recorded the highest year-on-year growth in European travel interest among all major Asian destinations for the peak summer holiday period of July and August 2026.
Data released by digital travel platform Agoda reveals that European accommodation searches for India jumped 14 percent year-on-year based on bookings and search activity recorded between April and June 2026. This growth places India ahead of other fast-rising regional destinations including South Korea (+13%) and Vietnam (+12%).
While long-established leisure hubs like Thailand, Indonesia, and Japan retained top positions for overall search volume, India saw the sharpest rise in momentum, pointing to an expanding appetite among European vacationers for immersive cultural, culinary, and value-driven itineraries.
Top Source Markets: Established Favorites and Rapid Eastern European Growth
The United Kingdom remains the primary European source market driving travel demand to India, followed closely by Germany, the Netherlands, France, and Italy.
However, emerging markets across Central and Eastern Europe recorded extraordinary surging interest compared to 2025 levels:
- Slovakia: +148% search volume growth
- Croatia: +128% search volume growth
- Ireland: +88% search volume growth
"India's growing popularity among European travelers reflects a broader shift in how international visitors are discovering the country," noted Gaurav Malik, Country Director for the Indian Subcontinent at Agoda. "Beyond iconic landmarks, travelers are increasingly seeking authentic cultural experiences, wellness retreats, culinary journeys, and nature-led escapes."
Key Indian Destinations: Gateway Hubs and Coastal Escapes
According to search metrics, three destinations accounted for the bulk of European travel queries:
- New Delhi: Serving as the nation's primary international entrance, attracting visitors through historic monuments, heritage tours, and street food corridors.
- Mumbai: Drawing cosmopolitan travelers interested in urban entertainment, fine dining, and heritage art districts.
- Goa: Remaining a perennial favorite for European tourists seeking coastal relaxation, wellness resorts, and heritage architecture.
